User guide

Everything you need, in one place.

A short, plain guide to LingoVoice. Read it in 8 minutes, reference it whenever. Covers signup, sessions, languages, pricing, and tips for getting good translations on the first try.

01

Getting started

To use LingoVoice as a host, the person opening the session, you need an account. Your client does not. They join through a guest link.

Create your account

  1. Go to lingovoice.ai/app and click Sign up.
  2. Use email and password, or continue with Google or Microsoft.
  3. You get 60 free minutes immediately, no credit card needed.
Allow microphone access on your first session

The first time you open a session, your browser asks for microphone access. Allow it. If you blocked it by accident, the in-app help shows you how to re-enable it.

02

Using a session

Every conversation happens in a room. Rooms are private, six-character codes you share with your client.

  1. Sign in and click New session.
  2. Pick the two languages, yours (for example English) and the other person's (for example Pashto).
  3. Copy the guest link or give the six-character room code. Your client opens it on any browser.
  4. Speak normally. Their side hears the translation in their language. They reply, you hear yours.

That is the entire flow. You do not need to send or translate anything manually. Every message is translated automatically as it arrives.

03

Text and voice messages

Text messages

Type and press Enter, or the send button. Your text appears in your language, the other side sees it translated into theirs. Useful when:

  • The person is hard of hearing
  • You are in a noisy environment
  • You need precise terminology, for example medication names or legal terms

Voice messages

Press the microphone button, speak, release. LingoVoice transcribes your speech, translates it, and reads it back to the other side in their language. Best for:

  • Natural back and forth conversation
  • When the person has lower literacy in their own script
  • Longer explanations
You can mix and match

One side can speak while the other types. The platform handles both directions and both modes at the same time.

04

Supported languages

260+ languages for real-time text translation, with a large set that also speaks out loud through natural-sounding voice output. This includes the community languages UK practices often struggle to source:

  • Tigrinya, Amharic, Oromo (Horn of Africa)
  • Dari, Pashto, Farsi (Afghanistan and Iran)
  • Arabic (multiple dialects)
  • Somali, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Swahili
  • Kurdish (Sorani, Kurmanji), Turkish
  • Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil
  • Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean
  • Polish, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian

Right to left languages such as Arabic, Farsi, Pashto and Urdu render natively right to left, including mixed right to left and left to right conversations.

05

Pricing and minutes

How it works

Everything is billed in minutes. One minute of conversation is one minute deducted. New accounts get 60 free minutes on signup.

How minutes are counted

  • The timer runs while the session is open and either side is actively speaking or typing.
  • Idle time, when nobody is talking or typing for a while, does not count.
  • You see your remaining balance live at the top of every session.

Payment methods

Pay as you go top-ups from £5. Pro subscriptions from £29 per month. Card payment, UK VAT included. Receipts are available in-app and emailed automatically. Full pricing.

Tips for best results

  • Speak in short sentences. Translation accuracy is higher on 5 to 15 second utterances than on 60-second monologues.
  • Pause between turns. Give the platform a half second to deliver the translation before the next speaker begins.
  • Avoid heavy jargon on the first run. Plain language translates more reliably than legal-Latin or medical-Latin. If you need a glossary loaded for your specialty, ask via contact.
  • Use a headset. A simple wired headset improves voice transcription significantly versus a laptop's built-in microphone.
  • Use text for critical facts. Type names, addresses, dates, medication names, dosages, anything where a misheard syllable matters.

Yes. Family members, second clinicians and support workers can all join the same room. Each picks their own language and the platform translates between all of them. Live video is one to one.

The boundary is honest: AI for the intake, a certified human interpreter for the formal record. For legally binding proceedings, sworn statements and medically critical contexts, book a qualified human interpreter. LingoVoice complements certified interpreting in those situations, it does not replace it. Lingo Service Translations, our parent company, can supply human interpreters.
